On Thursday, October 4, BENCHELLAL opens the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week at the Marineterrein in Amsterdam. With 32 looks designer Mo Benchellal shows a circularly designed collection based on old Defense materials such as uniforms, tents and backpacks.
Benchellal got the inspiration for this collection from the deconstruction of the different items.
During the design process, all materials and uniforms made available by Defense department have been completely dismantled and then processed into completely new creations. As a result, the collection has a strongly recognizable army theme with visible references to the army, air force, navy, Marechaussee, police and fire brigade. By adding contrasting fabrics such as tulle, satin and taffeta, Benchellal translates the authoritarian male uniform into unique romantic female designs with a recognizable reference to the origin.
'I don't call myself a sustainable designer but get inspiration from the experiment in which I revitalize existing and used materials', says Mo Benchellal.
