Iris van Herpen investigates the nature and anatomy of air and the idea of airborne material and lightness to create negative and positive space using light and shadow. Van Herpen was inspired by the Danish underwater artists Between Music, who challenge the relationship between the body and it's elementary environment in a sub-aquatic environment where air is absent.

"Their fluid voices and the subsonic darkness of Between Music overwhelmed me. It motivated me to deepen in contrasts, between water and air, between inside and outside and between darkness and light." - Iris van Herpen
