TASCHEN was founded in 1980 by Benedikt Taschen in Cologne, Germany. Starting with TASCHEN comics, the company grew to be a noteworthy force in making lesser-seen art available to mainstream bookstores. TASCHEN has helped to bring art into a broader public view by publishing these potentially controversial volumes along more mainstream books of comics, photography, painting, design, fashion, advertising, history, film and architecture. TASCHEN’s publications are available in a variety of sizes (from oversized to mini). The company also produces calendars, address books and postcards on popular subjects. The company’s mission has been to publish innovative, beautifully designed art books at popular prices (starting at € 10,-). TASCHEN is also known for their ‘extraordinaire’ publications such as the 75 pound weighting, 700 pages big GOAT and Helmut Newton publications, which are sold at the quite spectacular price of € 15.000,-.
